History/Overview
After decades of reserving the Civic Type R for overseas markets only, Honda in 2018 finally brought the speediest Civic to North America, when it arrived as a variant of the compact car’s 10th-gen platform.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2023, the Civic Type R is all-new (following a brief hiatus for 2022) as the high-performance package makes its debut on this compact car’s 11th-generation underpinnings. While it’s just as speed focused as before, this new version looks a lot less outlandish.
Available Trims
Honda offers the Civic Type R in a single trim level, powered by a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine and a six-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip differential.
Standard Features
The Type R rides on 19-inch wheels, and also gets adaptive dampers, Brembo front brakes, auto on/off LED headlights/taillights, and passive keyless entry. Inside, there are digital gauges, an auto-dimming mirror, dual-zone A/C, wireless phone charging, 12-speaker audio, and a 9.0-inch touchscreen with navigation.
Standard safety kit includes forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning/keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front/rear parking sensors.

The Honda Civic Type R is arguably one of the most significant sport compact car as it has been tasked with setting the bar for the segment for almost exactly 25 years. Every generation, and I am including the still mesmerizing DC2 Acura Integra Type R, has pushed driving performance boundaries to new heights. The previous-generation Civic Type R, known as the FK8, was undoubtedly a high point in the car’s history but now, there’s a new iteration landing at a Honda store near you.
